What Makes SIV Different?
It's About the Skin Microbiome
Our skin is home to a diverse community of bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms, collectively known as the skin microbiome.
These microorganisms aren't necessarily something we need to remove. Many are involved in maintaining a healthy skin environment, interacting with our immune system and helping protect against potentially harmful organisms.
When this ecosystem becomes disrupted, a process known as dysbiosis, it may contribute to inflammation, sensitivity and impaired skin function.
SIV is designed to support a healthier microbial environment rather than relying on exfoliation or antimicrobial ingredients to address skin concerns.
The Science Behind SIV
Spore-Based Microbiome Technology
The formula contains a proprietary blend of Bacillus bacterial spores.
Spores are dormant, highly resilient bacterial structures capable of surviving challenging environmental conditions.
SIV's approach is based on using these spores to interact with the skin's existing microbial ecosystem and support a more balanced environment.
Quorum Sensing
Bacteria communicate with one another using chemical signalling molecules through a process known as quorum sensing.
This communication helps microorganisms coordinate certain behaviours, including growth, biofilm formation and responses to their environment.
SIV describes its technology as using these microbial communication pathways to support balance within the skin microbiome.
While quorum sensing is a well-established biological process, the precise effects of SIV's proprietary spores on different skin microbiomes are still an area where more independent research would be valuable.
Supporting the Skin Rather Than Stripping It
Healthy skin relies on more than exfoliation and active ingredients.
The skin barrier, immune system, natural lipids, pH and microbiome all interact to maintain a stable environment.
SIV combines its spore technology with skin-compatible emollients to provide a simple, non-exfoliating approach to supporting skin comfort and resilience.
-
Microbiome Balance
Designed to support a balanced microbial environment and encourage a healthier skin ecosystem.
Redness & Inflammation-Prone Skin
May provide additional support for skin experiencing visible redness, irritation or reactivity, particularly when microbiome disruption is a contributing factor.
Barrier Support
The lipid-based formula helps replenish surface emollients and reduce moisture loss, supporting a more comfortable skin barrier.
Acne-Prone & Congested Skin
The skin microbiome plays a role in acne development, alongside hormones, sebum production, follicular blockage and inflammation.
SIV may be a useful complementary product for acne-prone skin, especially when stronger actives have left the skin feeling irritated or depleted.
Hydration Without Heavy Moisturisers
The lightweight, anhydrous formula uses skin-compatible lipids to soften the skin and help reduce transepidermal water loss.
Skin Resilience
By supporting the skin's surface environment and moisture barrier, SIV aims to help skin better tolerate everyday environmental stressors.
-
Bacillus Spores
The defining ingredient in SIV.
A proprietary blend of bacterial spores designed to interact with the skin microbiome and support microbial balance.
The manufacturer describes these spores as helping discourage the overgrowth of certain microorganisms while supporting beneficial species.
Squalane
A stable, lightweight emollient derived from sugarcane.
Squalane is similar in structure to squalene, a naturally occurring component of human sebum. It helps soften the skin and reduce moisture loss without a heavy finish.
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
A skin-conditioning lipid derived from fatty acids.
Helps replenish surface lipids, improve softness and support the skin's protective moisture barrier.
Glyceryl Caprylate
A multifunctional, plant-derived ingredient with emollient and formulation-supporting properties.
Helps maintain skin softness and contributes to the formula's stability.

Shake vigorously before every application.
Apply 1–3 drops once daily to clean, dry or slightly damp skin after cleansing or toning.
Gently press into the face, avoiding the eye area.
Follow with your other skincare products as appropriate.
Because this is a lipid-based serum, it can be incorporated alongside hydrating serums and moisturisers according to your skin's needs.
A little sediment is normal.
You may notice small beige or white particles or clumps in the serum. These are associated with the spore-containing material and can naturally settle because the formula doesn't contain suspension agents.
Shake thoroughly to redistribute them before use.
The formula also has a natural ingredient scent rather than added fragrance.
